Description

This ceramic vessel dates to the 2nd–4th centuries CE, a period characterized by the expansion of urban centers in Central Asia.
The vessel has a compact and stable form, with a rounded body, a short neck, and two symmetrically placed handles. This configuration facilitated carrying and everyday use. A shallow decorative band of incised wavy lines encircles the body. This restrained motif is widely attested in the ceramics of the Fergana Valley and neighboring regions.
The combination of functional design and modest ornamentation reflects established craft traditions of the period. Vessels of this type were used for storing and serving water, dairy products, or other beverages.
The object provides insight into the material culture of ancient Central Asian societies, in which local artistic forms developed within broader networks of regional exchange.
