Description
This is another 7th-century rider figure created within the pre-Islamic cultural milieu of Central Asia.
Although the subject is comparable, this example presents a more compact and unified plastic treatment.
The horse is rendered with a gently curved neck and a solid, compact body. Its form is conceived as a stable volume resting on a rectangular base. The rider sits upright; the elongated figure nearly merges with the silhouette of the horse. Facial features and costume details are minimally articulated, underscoring a typological rather than individualized representation.
Attention may be drawn to the surface texture: traces of slip and areas of partial loss create a layered visual effect resulting from age and preservation.
Such sculptural images may have carried memorial or cultic associations, reflecting the prestige of mounted status and the prominence of warrior culture in 7th-century Central Asia.
