Description
This small handled jug dates to the 6th–7th centuries CE and was produced in Fergana.
It belongs to the final phase of the region’s pre-Islamic period, when local craft traditions had reached a stable and well-established form.
The vessel is distinguished by its compact proportions and clearly defined silhouette. A wide, slightly flaring rim forms a practical pouring edge. Beneath it, a modest spout projects from the body, while a loop handle connects the neck and shoulder. On the interior surface, a small aperture is visible, likely associated with forming or firing processes.
Its smooth, light-ochre surface is undecorated, characteristic of utilitarian ceramics of this period in Fergana.
The jug was probably used for serving liquids in a domestic setting. It illustrates the craftsman’s attention to functional detail and the continuity of local ceramic traditions during a period of historical transition.
