Description
This small spouted jug was produced in the Fergana Valley in the 7th century CE, during the pre-Islamic period of the region.
Unlike large storage vessels, it represents a more compact form intended for individual or table use.
Its defining feature is the elongated spout rising from the rim, facilitating precise and controlled pouring. The compact rounded body and curved handle create a balanced and cohesive profile.
The reddish coloration of the fired clay and slight variations in surface tone suggest a traditional kiln-firing technique. Although undecorated, the vessel achieves visual interest through its plastic form and the contrast between the spherical body and the vertical spout.
Jugs of this type were used for serving water or other beverages in domestic settings. The object illustrates the diversity of ceramic forms in Fergana and the artisans’ attention to functional design.
