Description

This bronze coin is associated with Shishpir, one of the Samarkand Ikhshids who ruled in the first half of the 7th century. Through its inscriptions and visual elements, the coin is regarded as a material-cultural expression of local authority. Alongside elements of the Sasanian style, it also features symbols reflecting local identity. The coin’s weight, diameter, and metal composition provide important information about the economic system, trade relations, and minting technologies of that era. The Shishpir coin is a rare example of early medieval numismatics in Uzbekistan.
