Description
This silver coin was minted in Sogdiana during the 4th–5th centuries AD. Sogdiana, as an important part of the Silk Road, had its own coinage system in its city-states. The coin provides significant information about local authority, economic transactions, and religious beliefs of that era. Despite its small size of 9 mm in diameter, the coin’s metal composition, minting style, and epigraphic elements highlight the distinctiveness of Sogdian numismatic art. It features a stylized portrait of a ruler, local inscriptions, and religious symbols. Sogdian coins are an important numismatic source for studying the history of Uzbekistan, trade routes, currency circulation, and religious views of the time.
