Description
This silver coin was minted between the 1st–3rd centuries AD by an ancient local authority or city-state known as Girkod, reflecting the earliest stages of Uzbekistan’s numismatic history. The name Girkod, found in archaeological and numismatic sources, may have been associated with local political structures, trade relations, and religious beliefs. Measuring 8 mm in diameter, the coin’s small size, metal composition, and minting style shed light on the craftsmanship and economic practices of that era. It features a stylized portrait of a ruler, local tamgas, and religious symbols, representing signs of authority or spiritual ideas. Silver coins were commonly used as reliable instruments in trade transactions. The Girkod coin is an important source for studying the numismatic history and local states of Uzbekistan, offering valuable insights into the economic system, cultural values, and political independence of that time.
