Description

This coin was minted in the 6th–7th centuries in Sogdiana, one of the ancient and culturally rich regions of Central Asia. Measuring 19 mm in diameter, the coin’s compact form, minting style, and epigraphic inscriptions highlight the distinctiveness of Sogdian numismatic art. It depicts a stylized portrait of a local ruler, tamgas, a fire altar, or other religious symbols associated with Zoroastrianism and local beliefs. The Sogdian coin is an important exhibit in the numismatic history of Uzbekistan, providing valuable insights into trade routes, currency circulation, religious symbols, and the local political structure of that era.
