Description
This model represents the memorial complex of Imam al-Bukhari — one of the most significant centers of Islamic scholarship and spiritual heritage in Central Asia.
Imam al-Bukhari, who lived in the 9th century, is recognized as the foremost scholar of hadith. His work, “Sahih al-Bukhari,” became a foundational text of Islamic tradition and has long been regarded as the most authoritative collection after the Qur’an.
The complex in Samarkand serves not only as a pilgrimage site but also as a space of scholarly continuity. Its architectural composition integrates the mausoleum, mosque, iwans, and educational areas, creating a unified environment where religious practice and intellectual study coexist.
The scale and structure of the ensemble are particularly notable: its symmetrical layout, tall minarets, and open galleries reflect the principles of Islamic architecture aimed at fostering harmony and contemplation.
The historical legacy of al-Bukhari is closely tied to this region. Although he was born in Bukhara, he spent his final years near Samarkand, where the center of veneration later developed.
This model illustrates not only the architectural form but also a contemporary re-engagement with tradition — reaffirming Central Asia’s role as a major intellectual and spiritual center of the Islamic world.
