Description
This object is a panoramic depiction of the Masjid al-Haram and the Kaaba, created at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries.
Such works belong to the category of pilgrimage imagery, serving as visual references that allowed believers to imagine the sacred space of Mecca.
The composition is organized as an extended panorama: the Kaaba occupies the center, surrounded by the arcades of the mosque courtyard.
At the lower register, the 127th verse of Surah al-Baqarah is inscribed, referring to the construction of the Kaaba by the prophets Ibrahim and Ismail. This integrates theological meaning into the visual representation.
The use of silk-based paper reflects Central Asian traditions of high-quality paper production and artistic craftsmanship.
These images circulated as devotional and commemorative objects associated with the Hajj.
The artifact demonstrates how visual and textual forms worked together to shape the perception of sacred geography.
