Description

This model represents the Round City of Baghdad, founded in 762 by the Abbasid caliph al-Mansur.
The city was designed as a perfect circular plan with a clear radial organization. Concentric zones structured the space: residential areas, administrative sectors, and the central core.
At the center stood the caliphal palace and the main mosque, symbolizing political and religious authority.
The Bayt al-Hikma, or House of Wisdom, functioned as a major intellectual institution. It combined a library, translation bureau, and scholarly workspace, where texts from Greek and Eastern traditions were translated into Arabic.
Scholars from Central Asia played a significant role in this environment, including Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi and Ahmad al-Farghani.
The model presents Baghdad as an integrated system in which urban planning, governance, and knowledge production were closely interconnected.
