Description
This is a model of the Kalyan Minaret, one of the most iconic architectural landmarks of Bukhara.
The original structure was built in 1127 under the Karakhanid ruler Arslan Khan. Rising to approximately 45 meters, it functioned both as a religious structure and as a key urban landmark.
Constructed from fired brick, the minaret is decorated with multiple horizontal bands, each featuring distinct geometric or epigraphic ornamentation. These bands create a rhythmic vertical composition that emphasizes height and monumentality.
While its primary function was to call the faithful to prayer, the minaret also symbolized the presence of Islam and the authority of the ruling power.
Its robust engineering and deep foundation allowed it to survive the invasions of the 13th century, making it a rare example of continuity in the architectural heritage of Central Asia.
