Description

This bronze dish comes from Khorasan, a region that flourished as a major cultural and artistic center of the Islamic world between the 11th and 13th centuries. Such dishes were used both for everyday dining and for more ceremonial occasions.
A wide, flat rim surrounds a gently recessed center, giving the object a sense of stability and order. The surface is decorated with finely engraved ornament, combining geometric patterns with stylized vegetal motifs. These designs are not merely decorative, they reflect a broader medieval Islamic idea of harmony and cosmic balance.
Bronze offered durability while allowing refined decoration. Placed at the center of a table, it emphasized hospitality, status, and aesthetic sensibility. Objects like this demonstrate how function and artistry were seamlessly combined in the material culture of the period.
