Description

This 12th-century water vessel was produced during the Khwarazmshah period, a time of active cultural exchange between Khorasan and Mawarannahr.
Its form is both expressive and monumental. The expanded cylindrical body is articulated by vertical ribs that create rhythm and structural clarity. A tall neck extends into a slender spout designed for controlled pouring. The curved handle connects the upper body to the neck, ensuring practical functionality.
The surface is decorated with ornamental bands and epigraphic inscriptions typical of 12th-century artistic traditions. The decoration combines vegetal motifs and stylized calligraphy, reflecting the spread of Islamic aesthetics in the region.
Such vessels were used in daily life and in ritual ablutions. They demonstrate the high level of metalworking and the developed urban culture of Khurasan during the Khwarazmshah era.
