Description
This document is traditionally identified as a letter addressed to al-Mundhir ibn Sāwā, ruler of Bahrain, and attributed in Islamic sources to the Prophet Muhammad. It is dated to the 7th century CE.
According to early historical accounts, letters were sent from Medina to regional rulers inviting them to recognize the message of Islam. Such correspondence reflects the diplomatic and religious outreach of the emerging Islamic community.
The text is written in an early Arabic script often described as Kufic. At the bottom appears a seal impression bearing the formula “Muhammad, Messenger of God.” The arrangement of the inscription follows conventions seen in early Islamic seals.
The letter calls for recognition of monotheism and refers to themes also found in Qur’an 3:64, inviting agreement on the worship of one God.
Later historical tradition records that the ruler responded positively. The document, preserved on papyrus, provides insight into early Islamic written culture and forms of communication.
