Description
This bowl dates to the 10th–12th centuries and was discovered in the Kharazm region. Ceramic products in this style are often found Nishapur (Iran), Samarkand, Bukhara, Termez, and the vicinity of Balkh. This vessel is characteristic of the Samanid period (819–1005), when ceramic art was at a very high level in these regions. One of the main features of Samanid ceramics is geometric and stylized floral patterns, a carefully crafted compositional center, and balanced filling decorations on the walls of vessels. This vessel is decorated with light yellow-brown and black carpet patterns. The patterns inside the central part of the vessel consist of floral forms.
