Description

This gold-embroidered textile dates to the Ilkhanid period.
The fabric is decorated with a complex geometric composition based on repeating triangles and polygonal forms filled with vegetal motifs. The pattern reflects a synthesis of nomadic symbolism and Islamic ornamental principles, where geometry expresses cosmic harmony and order.
This silk was distinguished by its density and durability. Gold thread was likely applied using couching techniques, producing a refined shimmering surface. Such textiles were associated with courtly environments, ceremonial garments, or tent decorations.
The object illustrates the cultural integration of the 13th–14th centuries, when Eurasian trade networks facilitated artistic exchange.
