Description

This ceramic bowl dates to the 2nd–4th centuries CE and was discovered at the site of Lombitepa in Fergana.
This period was marked by active cultural contacts between the region and neighboring areas of Central Asia.
The bowl has a low profile and a stable base. Particular attention may be drawn to its exterior relief decoration: figures and ornamental elements arranged along the rim in a stylized, mythological manner. The composition follows a circular principle, reinforcing the enclosed form and the rhythmic repetition of motifs.
The imagery combines zoomorphic and fantastic features characteristic of the artistic vocabulary of early Fergana. Such plastic treatment indicates a developed symbolic tradition and a sophisticated approach to decorative ceramics.
The bowl may have served domestic or ritual functions. It illustrates the artistic diversity of ancient Fergana and its integration into the broader cultural sphere of Eurasia during the early centuries CE.
