Description
This coin was minted in the 7th century in Sogdiana and clearly reflects the political structure, trade relations, and cultural identity of the time. The obverse depicts the local ruler’s portrait, accompanied by inscriptions in Aramaic or Sogdian, as well as religious and symbolic imagery. These elements provide detailed information about the ruler’s status, beliefs, and artistic styles. Sogdian coinage developed through a synthesis of Hellenistic, Iranian, and local traditions. As an artifact, the coin serves as an important witness to the trade activity, monetary system, and international connections of Central Asia in the 7th century.
