Description

This coin was minted in the 8th century in ancient Khwarazm by Kanik, a ruler of the Afrigid dynasty. It stands as important evidence of the region’s political independence, local minting traditions, and cultural identity. The Afrigids maintained a long-lasting independent political system in Khwarazm, and their coins symbolized this sovereignty. The obverse depicts the ruler’s portrait, while inscriptions in Khwarazmian script and symbolic motifs highlight his status, religious beliefs, and local artistic styles. As an artifact, the coin provides valuable insights into the political, cultural, and economic life of Afrigid-era Khwarazm.
