Description

The Sogdian coin was minted in the 1st–4th centuries by the local ruler Girkod, who governed in the Sogd region. It is an important testimony to the political authority, economic activity, and cultural connections of that era. The coin depicts the ruler’s image, inscriptions in Greek or Aramaic, and religious symbols, which provide information about the ruler’s power, trade relations, and cultural influences. This coin reflects a monetary system where Hellenistic and local traditions were blended. The Girkod coin is a unique source that illuminates the political, economic, and cultural aspects of ancient Uzbekistan’s history.
