Audio guide
Description
These pictographic inscriptions, dating to the 2nd millennium BCE, were discovered during archaeological excavations at the Jarkutan site. On 47 artifacts, nearly 52 different types of pictographic symbols were identified, engraved onto their surfaces. These signs indicate that ancient communities used them as a means of communication and meaning. The symbols not only decorated everyday objects but were likely employed for cultural or religious purposes as well. Through them, the earliest forms of writing can be observed. The Jarkutan site serves as an important source for understanding the history of writing and the development of civilization in Central Asia.
