Description

This ceramic jug dates to the 13th–14th centuries CE and reflects decorative traditions of the region during this period.
Its rounded body is painted in cobalt blue and white. At the center appears a deer, framed by stylized floral ornament. Dark contour lines define the figure, while the background is filled with vegetal motifs arranged in a dense pattern.
The deer motif appears in various artistic traditions of Central Asia and neighboring regions. In decorative contexts, such imagery may have carried symbolic associations, though it also functioned as a visual ornament.
The design was executed in underglaze painting: the motif was applied before firing and sealed beneath a transparent glaze, preserving the color and producing a smooth surface.
While vessels of this type served domestic purposes, their detailed decoration reflects the technical skill of urban ceramic workshops in the 13th–14th centuries CE.
