Description
This water ewer from the 8th–9th centuries belongs to the early Islamic period in Central Asia, when new artistic forms developed on the basis of local traditions.
Cast in bronze, the vessel displays elongated and balanced proportions. A spherical body rests on a stable base; a tall neck transitions into a curved spout. The handle is elegantly arched and finished with decorative elements, while the lid is crowned with a sculptural finial. These features create a distinctive silhouette.
Such ewers were used for ablutions and the serving of water, corresponding to the daily and religious practices of early Islamic society. Their form reflects the integration of functionality and aesthetic refinement.
The green patina visible on the surface is the result of natural oxidation, emphasizing the antiquity and authenticity of the object.
