Description
This is a facsimile copy of one of the most authoritative works in the Islamic world – Al-Jamiʿ al-Sahih by Imam al-Bukhari.
Compiled by the great scholar from Bukhara, this work is regarded as the most reliable collection of hadith – reports about the words and actions of the Prophet Muhammad. By the 12th century, such manuscripts formed the foundation of religious education, law, and ethical thought across the Islamic world.
The manuscript is written in the naskh script, a writing style valued for its clarity and efficiency. The spread of this script played a major role in the development of manuscript culture and the transmission of knowledge in major centers such as Bukhara and Samarkand.
The binding also deserves attention. The traditional Islamic binding includes a protective envelope flap known as a miklaba, designed to protect the manuscript and serve as a built-in bookmark. The gilded geometric decoration reflects the prestige of the book.
This is not the original manuscript but a precise facsimile. Such reproductions allow scholars to study the calligraphy, layout, and structure of historical manuscripts while preserving the fragile original, now kept in the Süleymaniye Library in Istanbul.
This manuscript illustrates the role of Transoxiana as one of the major intellectual centers of the Islamic world.
