Description

This manuscript presents a copy of Tahdhib al-Akhlaq, an important philosophical and ethical treatise by Abu Ali Miskawayh, a major thinker of the tenth and eleventh centuries.
The work focuses on moral education and the cultivation of human character. Miskawayh argues that ethical behavior results from conscious self-discipline and emphasizes the balance between reason, moral virtues, and human actions.
The treatise is considered one of the earliest systematic works on Islamic ethics. It reflects the influence of classical Greek philosophy, particularly Aristotle, whose ideas were adapted within the framework of Islamic intellectual traditions.
This manuscript represents a later Persian copy written in the elegant nastaʿliq script, indicating the long-standing scholarly interest in the work across Central Asia.
The text reflects the region’s strong tradition of ethical and philosophical education, where personal moral development was seen as fundamental to both spiritual and social order.
