Description

This object is a reconstruction inspired by the scientific legacy of Abu Rayhan al-Biruni, one of the leading scholars of the 11th century.
Al-Biruni extensively studied calendar systems, lunar phases, and solar cycles. His works provide mathematical methods for calculating time across different cultural traditions.
The model translates these calculations into a system of interlocking gears, illustrating the relationships between astronomical cycles.
Such mechanisms whether theoretical or practical were used to support applied astronomy, including determining prayer times and coordinating calendars.
The artifact reflects a defining feature of Islamic science: the integration of mathematics, observation, and practical application.
It represents not a specific historical device, but a material interpretation of al-Biruni’s analytical approach to time and the knowledge.
