Description
This is a model of Rabat-i Malik, an 11th-century architectural complex located along the caravan route between Bukhara and Samarkand.
Built during the Karakhanid period, it combined the functions of a fortified rabat and a representative residence. It was not merely a caravanserai, but a strategic node along the Silk Road.
The complex featured strong defensive walls and a well-organized internal layout, including residential and service areas, and possibly religious spaces. A monumental entrance portal, decorated with intricate brickwork and geometric ornament, served as its architectural focal point.
Rabat-i Malik illustrates the advanced infrastructure that supported long-distance trade and administrative control across Central Asia.
The model reconstructs the original scale and layout of the complex, much of which has not survived.
