Description
Sogdian textiles date back to the 7th–8th centuries and were discovered in the territory of Uzbekistan. These fabrics were produced in Sogd, a major cultural and trade center of the time. During this period, Sogdian craftsmanship, especially textile art, spread widely along the Silk Road and was highly valued from China to Byzantium. The textiles were woven from cotton and decorated with complex geometric patterns, stylized animal figures, floral motifs, and sometimes inscriptions. The most common colors were red, yellow, blue, and green, derived from natural dyes. Sogdian textiles were significant not only as clothing but also in religious rituals, home decoration, and as trade goods. They are unique exhibits reflecting the aesthetic taste, technical skill, and cultural connections of Sogdian art, providing valuable insights into the life, beliefs, and international trade relations of that era.
