Description

This bronze pin dates back to the 7th–8th centuries and represents a distinctive example of Buddhist art. At its upper part is the depiction of a Bodhisattva, giving the object not only aesthetic but also religious meaning. The Bodhisattva is portrayed as a spiritual being striving for enlightenment but refraining from entering nirvana in order to help others. The smooth workmanship and balanced form of the figurine highlight the high technical skill of medieval craftsmen. While serving as an everyday item, the pin may also have fulfilled ceremonial or protective functions.
