Description

This Buddha statue was discovered at Fayoztepa in Surkhandarya and dates back to the 1st–2nd centuries AD. The “Triad” sculpture, carved from marl limestone, depicts the Buddha seated under the Bodhi tree, accompanied by two monks. The Fayoztepa Buddhist temple complex, located near Termez, consisted of a temple, monastery, and economic buildings, forming a large religious center. This find reveals ancient forms of Buddhist art and religious life in the territory of present-day Uzbekistan.
